ODT files are documents, similar to DOC and DOCX files. However, instead of being created with Microsoft Word, ODT files are created in software suites that abide by the Open Document Format (ODF). These include programs such as Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice.
Since ODTs come from software focused on open formats, they are actually pretty versatile. You can open ODTs in Word, Google Docs, and many other word processors. Unfortunately, full compatibility is not guaranteed, so your fonts, images, and formatting might behave a bit differently outside of the program that created the ODT.
Meanwhile, PDFs are also document files. However, PDFs are nearly universal when it comes to compatibility. In other words, a PDF opened on one computer is likely to look exactly the same as it did on another computer. The trade-off for this, though, is that PDFs are not as easy to edit as ODTs.
Compatibility across systems isn’t guaranteed with ODTs. Unless you are certain the recipient is using the same word processor as you, there’s a good chance your ODT will not look as you expect on their computer. This is the number one reason to convert an ODT to PDF.
A PDF not only will look the same on their computer but it will also look the same on their tablet, phone, and pretty much any other device they own. This universal support makes PDF the best format for sharing documents.
Our conversion tool can convert an ODT document to a PDF for free. Your PDF won’t have a watermark, you won’t need to enter your email address, and you can do as many conversions as you need without cost.
To start, upload one or up to 20 ODTs. You can do this by either dragging and dropping the files onto this page or hitting the “UPLOAD FILES” button.
Once you’ve uploaded your file(s), our conversion tool will immediately get to work. You can watch in real time as your ODT turns into a PDF.
Once the conversion is complete, the progress bar under the document’s thumbnail in the queue will turn into a “DOWNLOAD” button. Hit this and you’ll download your new PDF.
If you uploaded multiple files, we recommend waiting until all conversions have finished. Once complete, you can simply hit the “DOWNLOAD ALL” button to grab all the PDFs at once. You’ll receive them in a ZIP archive.
If you have more than 20 ODT files you need to convert, that is no problem. Just hit the “CLEAR QUEUE” button and start these steps over again from the beginning. You can perform as many conversions as needed as long as you stick to no more than 20 documents during one session.
There is nothing to worry about when it comes to the safety and security of our online conversion tool. Your files stay secure since our unmanned server automatically deletes all uploaded data after 60 minutes. This ensures your sensitive information stays private.
Likewise, our server never touches your master files. When you upload an ODT, our server makes a copy of it and then converts that copy. Your original files stay safe on your computer or mobile device. If you are not satisfied with our PDF conversion for whatever reason, you can always go back to your original files and try again.
All uploaded data is deleted after 1 hour.
